Keyword research is really am important aspect of search engine optimization campaign, if your site is targeting the wrong keyword the search engine and your customer's may never find you and you can't afford to be compititive.
Try creating a list of keywords you know a custormer would want to search in the search engine, I have no doubt that once in a while you go to search engine to search for something.

For example let's see how keyword research works in practice, let our area of intrest or niche be how to "make money online". So "make money online" is our search phrase.

When you search make money online in google there are over 53.5 million results will returned back in google for this phrase, you might be wondering why this keyword is very important? The resons is because when ever you're looking to market a product in the internet niche, your main objective is to dominate your niche now when there are 53.3 million also trying to dominate this niche you chances of success is extremely slim.

So what you need do is to dig down deeper into "making money online" and look for keyword that carries quit less compititive "niche".

So now you begin looking for what is generally called "long tail keyword" which are about four to five phrase word which has few people searching for them every day and few competing website where this information can be found for the niche or subject matter.

The idea of this "long tail keyword" is that the compition is far less fierce, this is an advantage and also a drawback because if there less people searching for a particular phrase it means that there is a less demand associated with it.
